Best TV Lines Of 2013: They ARE Great, Bob!

$

There was really no contest about the single best line spoken on TV this year.

"Not great, Bob!" It was only three words, spoken by an angry Pete Campbell as he joined the ever-sunny Bob Benson in an elevator on "Mad Men." But Vincent Kartheiser's line delivery was deliciously perfect, and fans have been quoting the line and playing back that Vine endlessly.

That's far from the only great line that was uttered on TV this year -- there were hundreds of keepers. HuffPost TV kicked off the hashtag celebration #BestTVLines2013 earlier this week, and TV viewers joined in on the fun and reminded us of just how many awesome bon mots and amazing declarations we were treated to during the past twelve months.

Based on an unscientific poll of hundreds of quotes tweeted with that hashtag, "Orphan Black," "Orange Is the New Black," "Breaking Bad,"
"Scandal," "Parks and Recreation" and "The Vampire Diaries" are a few of TV's more quotable shows.

But our slideshow of more than 150 of 2013's most awesome lines contains quotes from dozens of different shows, from "Archer" to "American Horror Story: Coven" to "House of Cards." Don't blame us if you giggle excessively while sampling the most memorable offerings of #BestTVLines2013. Enjoy!

'Chick-Phil-A' Day Launched To Support 'Duck Dynasty' Star Phil Robertson

In the latest development to stem from "Ducky Dynasty" star Phil Robertson's homophobic and racist comments in a recent GQ profile and subsequent suspension from A&E, an unnamed group has launched "Chick-Phil-A" day, encouraging Robertson supporters to wear "Duck Commander or camouflage gear" and "eat at Chick-fil-A" on Jan. 21.

Organized through Facebook, the group claims that it has no affiliation with Chick-fil-A or Phil Robertson, but is "independent and organized from a grassroots view."

According to TMZ, the fast food chain stated that the event "is in no way sponsored by or affiliated with Chick-fil-A."

With almost 25,000 likes on Facebook, however, the campaign is picking up steam through social media.

This is not the first time that Chick-fil-A has become a symbolic rallying point for anti-gay groups to show their opposition to rights for the LGBT community.

In 2012, former GOP presidential candidate and former governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee organized "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" in an effort to end what he called the "vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry" aimed at Chick-fil-A after the chain's president, Dan Cathy, sparked outrage with anti-gay comments of his own.

In response, gay rights activists and allies held same-sex "kiss-ins" at their local Chick-fil-A's nationwide.

Interested in letting this group know how you feel about "Chick-Phil-A" day? Head here to send them an e-mail or here to view the group's Facebook page.

Jennifer Holliday, 'Dreamgirls' Star, Is Back With 'The Song Is You' Album And New Show

Jennifer Holliday has a few, very simple resolutions in mind as she prepares for the new year.

“I want to laugh more; I want to live more,” the 53-year-old Tony and Grammy Award winner says. “I’d like to take a few more risks.”

Fortunately, 2014 is already shaping up to be a banner year for Holliday, who is best known for originating the role of Effie White in the 1981 Broadway musical “Dreamgirls.” The veteran performer is gearing up to release “The Song is You,” her first full-length album of brand-new material in 22 years, on Jan. 21. But New York audiences won’t have to wait until next month to hear “The Song Is You,” as Holliday will showcase many of the album's jazz and R&B standards when she hitsNew York’s 54 Below for five intimate performances through Dec. 29.

Jennifer Holliday's legendary 1982 Tony Awards performance

Holliday’s lack of musical output over the past two decades might come as a surprise to some fans, a point which the artist herself acknowledges. Her signature ballad, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” has had a cultural resurgence over the past few years, thanks to Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar-winning performance as Effie in the 2006 film of “Dreamgirls” as well as “American Idol" runner-up Jessica Sanchez’s memorable duet with Holliday on the Fox reality series in 2012.

Of course, “Dreamgirls” was a seminal moment for the African-American community in musical theater, one that Holliday feels that Broadway has yet to replicate: “I still think [African-American performers] don’t have enough presence. We’ve made a few strides on the play end, but in terms of the big, mass musical, we haven’t had a good opportunity since ‘Dreamgirls’ to make that kind of an impact.”

In regard to her own absence from the stage, Holliday has also had her fair share of struggles, battling weight gain and clinical depression and even a suicide attempt during her years out of the spotlight after her “Dreamgirls” run wrapped. She hopes the new album also stands as a testament to those well-honed survival skills.

Holliday performs on "American Idol" with Jessica Sanchez in 2012

“People just discounted it as, ‘Oh, she’s a diva, and all artists go through these mood swings.’ So I do think I suffered for many years before getting any kind of help,” she recalls. “When I look back at it now, I’m just so grateful that I didn’t die … I didn’t realize I could make this kind of a return, that I still had something to contribute as an artist.”

Her 2007 performance alongside Sanchez landed her back in the blogosphere headlines, even if some of the buzz wasn’t entirely positive. But Holliday says she couldn’t be any more grateful.

“I owe a lot of this album to the young people who’ve searched me out and who’ve performed my songs on reality shows and who have made me a part of their era,” she says. “I’m very grateful for that. I’m still here and I still have my instrument intact, so it’s kind of like the teacher stepping out from behind with something new for audiences to hear.”

Jennifer Holliday plays New York's 54 Below through Dec. 29. Check here for more information.

Paris Hilton Says She's One Of The World's Top 5 DJs

Somehow over the last few years, Paris Hilton has grown from a reality star to an actual DJ. What's more, the heiress tells TMZ that her new–found career has proven incredibly successful.

Asked how lucrative her DJing is, Hilton casually responded, "I'm one of the top 5 in the world, so…"

Hilton reportedly makes between $100,000 and $350,000 for each of her live DJ sets, so her claim isn't implausible. The 32-year-old spent this summer playing weekly gigs at the Amnesia nightclub's "Foam and Diamonds" parties, and has been contracted to do the same in 2014. TMZ reported that Hilton's sets drew in massive crowds and helped the star to prove that she could hold her own in the growing electronic music scene.

Additionally, the famous blonde signed on with record label Cash Money earlier this year and plans to release an album in the near future.

The Daily Mail crunched some numbers to see how Hilton really stacked up to the competition:

…she would still have to be doing a lot of gigging to break into the prestigious top five, which features Harris in first place with $46 million, Tiesto in second with $32m, David Guetta in third with $30m, Swedish House Mafia in fourth with $25m, and finally Canadian duo Deadmau5 at $21 million.

Anyone curious enough to want to witness Hilton's skills for themselves can catch her spinning on New Year's Eve, as she performs a live set at Hyde in Las Vegas's Bellagio Hotel.

Gay Wedding Plans At 2014 Rose Parade Spark Controversy

$

A small backlash is brewing over plans to include a gay wedding ceremony at the 2014 Rose Parade, which this year is themed "Dreams Come True."

Long-term gay couple Aubrey Loots and Danny Leclair are to be married atop the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's wedding cake-shaped float. Sharon Raphael and Mina Meyer, a recently-married lesbian couple who have been together for 42 years, will also join Loots and Leclair on the float.

San Diego resident Karen Grube launched a Facebook page campaign against the planned wedding ceremony, asking people to stay home and keep the TV off on the day of the Rose Parade to boycott the marriage equality message. Grube also encouraged people to contact Rose Parade sponsors like Disneyland, the Los Angeles Times and Taco Bell to voice their opposition.

"Now gay activists want to destroy the Rose Parade by performing a Gay Wedding [emphasis hers] on one of the floats," says the Facebook page's cover photo. "I guess that's what they mean by 'Dreams Come True' or is it nightmares?"

She defended her campaign to local paper Pasadena Star-News.

“Gay marriage is illegal in over 30 states, why would they promote something that is blatantly illegal?” Grube said to Pasadena Star-News. “That’s just stupid.”

Ralph E. Shaffer, a professor emeritus of history at Cal Poly Pomona, also told the Star-News that Loots and Leclair's "in your face" ceremony could ultimately be detrimental to the marriage equality cause.

“The problem is going to be the wedding kiss,” Shaffer said to Pasadena Star-News. “I don’t know what the response is going to be,” he said.

AHF President Michael Weinstein responded to Shaffer's comments in a phone interview with The Huffington Post, calling the ceremony float a celebration of love, long-term relationships and marriage equality as the "law of the land."

"Aggression is in the eye of the beholder," said Weinstein to HuffPost. "The suggestion that same-sex couples have less of a right to exhibit their love for one another than heterosexual couples is a form of discrimination."

Weinstein also dismissed Grube's protest and praised the Tournament of Roses for its support.

"It's a tempest in a teapot," said Weinstein to HuffPost. "This opposition is minor and we've got great support from the Tournament of Roses, and we look forward to a wonderful day on January 1st."

After the Pasadena Star-News published their article, Grube posted it to the protest campaign's Facebook page and had this reaction:

"I was appalled to see the prepared statement from the Tournament of Roses that the [sic] 'welcomed' the float. Good grief! Can they be that clueless?"

As of this story's publish time, Grube's group had fewer than 300 "Likes" on Facebook.

1993 Houston Oilers Had At Least 2 Gay Players And It Was 'No Big Deal' According To Former Teammates

The 1993 Houston Oilers may have been one of the more dysfunctional teams in recent NFL history but that group could also have been more open, respectful and tolerant than some of its 2013 counterparts. According to former Oilers players who spoke with the Houston Chronicle, the team had at least two gay players who were accepted and valued members of the team. The players were not named in the report.

“Listen, those guys that we’re talking about were unbelievable teammates. And if you wanted to go to war with someone, you would get those guys first. Because I have never seen tougher guys than those guys,” former Oilers linebacker Lamar Lathon told the Houston Chronicle as part of a larger retrospective on the team's tumultuous season. “And everybody in the locker room, the consensus knew or had an idea that things were not exactly right. But guess what? When they strapped the pads on and got on the field, man, we were going to war with these guys because they were unbelievable.”

CLICK HERE for the oral history of the Houston Oilers' 1993 Season

Nearly 20 years after the '93 Oilers roller coaster season ended with a heartbreaking come-from-ahead playoff loss to Joe Montana and the Kansas City Chiefs, NBA center Jason Collins became the first active male player in one of the four major North American professional team sports leagues to come out as gay. Collins' announcement in April was followed shortly by Robbie Rogers becoming the first openly gay player in the MLS in May.

Although no active NFL player has come out, there is little doubt that there are gay players in the league. Punter Chris Kluwe, currently a free agent, has been an advocate for same sex marriage and believes it is only a matter of time before an active gay player comes out.

"As a professional football player, whether you know it or not, you have played either with or against a gay player," Kluwe said during a visit to HuffPost Live in June. "I guarantee that you have."

Despite the positive reactions to Collins and Rogers coming out and the increased support for equality from straight players like Kluwe, there are still enough negative, intolerant views expressed to make the NFL's readiness for an openly gay player the subject of ongoing debate. Prior to Super Bowl XLVII, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver sparked controversy by saying an openly gay player would not be welcome on his team.

"I don't do the gay guys man," Culliver told shock jock Artie Lange during a radio interview, via Yahoo! Sports. "I don't do that. No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do."

Culliver would later apologize but his quotes served as a reminder that the views of outspoken advocates for equality like Kluwe were not the only ones held in locker rooms. Although he took a far more open-minded view of playing with a gay teammate, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has said that aspects would make him "uncomfortable."

“Simple things, as far as showers and things like that, you know, of course, anyone would be uncomfortable,” Peterson told The Oklahoman in June. “But you know, I'm a grown man. There's things that I can deal with. I'm comfortable in my skin."

On the topic of taking showers with teammates known to be gay, former Oilers defensive back Bubba McDowell told the Chronicle it was "no big deal."

Although it was apparently "no big deal" for the 1993 Oilers to play with and have respect for gay teammates, there is one current league executive who reportedly believes the NFL isn't ready to accept a player who publicly came out in 2013.

"The league office backs the idea of an openly gay player, but one high-ranking league official believes the NFL isn't yet ready for one," reported Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report in November, citing several unnamed sources. "League executives think football is three to five years away from accepting such a player, according to an NFL source. The league plans to carefully and deliberately make the atmosphere more tolerant and comfortable in the meantime, setting the stage for when that happens."

Anne Hathaway Leaves A Bag Of Dog Poop As A Present For A Paparazzo

Anne Hathaway found what might be the very best way to tell the paparazzi to "back off."

On Dec. 26, the "Les Misérables" star decided to take stroll with her dog, Esmeralda, and she apparently wasn't keen on the idea of being followed by a man with a camera.

In a move that might turn Hathahaters to her side, the 31-year-old responsible dog owner, made sure to clean up after her pet -- leaving the yellow plastic bag full of canine excrement on the windshield of the paparazzo's car. The Oscar-winning actress left her gift for the photographer and proceeded with Esmerelda on their merry way.

Texas Pastor John Hagee Tells Atheists To Get On A Plane, 'Leave The Country'

In a sermon on Sunday, Texas megachurch pastor John Hagee advised atheists and humanists to “take your Walkman and stuff it into your ears” or just “leave the country” if they don’t like hearing "Merry Christmas" or carols like "Joy to the World," according to a video of Hagee’s speech hosted on Right Wing Watch.

“Planes are leaving every hour on the hour. Get on one," Hagee added, speaking from his Cornerstone Church in San Antonio.

Sunday’s sermon was not the first time the televangelist suggested nonbelievers leave the country. In a June 2012 sermon, Hagee, who is also the CEO of Global Evangelism Television, told the “atheist watching this telecast” that “this country was not built for atheists nor by atheists.”

“It was built by Christian people who believed in the word of God. ... If our belief in God offends you, move,” Hagee said before informing atheists that "we don’t want you and we won’t miss you, I promise you.”

Hagee, who endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president in 2008, has also declared on multiple occasions that God sent Adolf Hitler as a "hunter" to kill Jewish people for “disobedience and rebellion.”

In a 2006 interview with NPR, he also claimed that Hurricane Katrina, which killed more than 1,800 people, was an “act of God” to punish a Gay Pride parade scheduled in New Orleans.

“And the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades,” Hagee said. “I believe that the Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment, sometimes before the day of judgment. And I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.”

Phil Robertson Back On 'Duck Dynasty': A&E Brings Back Reality Star After Short Suspension

A&E has lifted its suspension on "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson after less than two weeks.

The reality star was initially suspended for anti-gay remarks he made in a GQ profile that surfaced on Dec. 18.

"Don't be deceived," he said in the magazine's January issue. "Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

Last week, A&E stated that it was disappointed in Robertson and put him on hiatus. But in a statement to THR on Friday (Dec. 27), A&E said it was inviting him back. Because no filming took place during his suspension, Robertson will appear in all new episodes of the show.

Read an excerpt from the network's statement below:

While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.

Homeless Trans Woman Andrea Quintero's Funeral Held By Jesuits at 'Church Of Francis' In Rome

Andrea Quintero, a homeless trans woman, was found beaten to death on July 29th alongside Rome's Termini station. Since then, her remains have been unclaimed by family members or friends, until Jesuit-run Centro Astalli stepped forward to organize a funeral with the assistance of civic officials and the Catholic charity organization Caritas, says the National Catholic Reporter.

Her funeral was held on Friday at Rome's Church of the Gesù, the mother church of the Jesuit order to which Pope Francis belongs. A Vatican spokesperson referred to it as "the church of Francis" in a tweet, which could also be read as the church of St. Francis, “in the sense that it’s a classic gesture of mercy for someone who lived and died at society’s margins," according to NCR.

Centro Astalli’s Jesuit director Fr. Giovanni La Manna said that the service was meant to remember Quintero's life, but also to send “a signal for the entire Roman community that’s distracted in the face so many people who face discrimination, and who live their difficulties to the indifference of our city," according to Raw Story.

The Local reported that Cecile Kyenge, Italy’s integration minister, and Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino, were expected to attend. There were white roses for her at the funeral.

Quintero was interviewed by Italian paper Corriere della Sera a mere week before her death, in which she outlined some of the horrible struggles she's faced, including beatings which left her with a paralyzed arm and a limp. She told her interviewers that her dream was to "meet a guy with money who'll get me out of this ugly life."

Originally from Colombia, she was 28 at the time of her death. She called herself the "Trans of Termini," a reference to the busy Rome railway station that she often frequented.

Her murderer still walks free as of today, as police have made no arrests for Quintero's death.

'Modern Family' Star Ty Burrell Serves As Witness In Surprise Lesbian Wedding

"Modern Family" star Ty Burrell helped celebrate a modern Utah family last week when he served as a witness in a surprise lesbian wedding.

A group was commemorating the legalization of same-sex marriage in Utah at Bar X in Salt Lake City on Dec. 27, when a lesbian couple decided to get married on the spot. Anne Anast, an executive director at Transgender Education Advocates, and her partner, Lindi Marie Inman, asked Burrell, who co-owns the bar and who was hanging out at the establishment at the time, to serve as their witness.

"Ty was hanging out and the woman just came up to him and asked him to be her witness and he agreed," a source told E! News of the surprise nuptials. "They chatted for a bit afterward. Everyone was just really happy and excited and the next thing I heard was someone just got married!"

He signed the marriage certificate as the official witness, according to TMZ, and then posed for a photo with one of the newlyweds. Anast shared the pic on the Tie The Knot (celebration of marriage equality) Facebook page, writing: "Wonderful night for a wedding! Thanks for hosting us and thanks Ty Burrell for being one of our witnesses! ♥♥♥."

A federal judge struck down Utah's same-sex marriage ban on Dec. 20, saying the 2004 ruling violates gay couples' right to due process and equal protection under the 14th Amendment, the Associated Press previously reported. The state, known for its significant Mormon population, is attempting to appeal and asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block any ongoing same-sex marriages.

Burrell, who plays Phil Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy, also attended the same-sex wedding of his co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson this summer. Ferguson married his partner, Justin Mikita, in New York City in June.

'Glee,' Rose Parade Gay Wedding Corrupting America's Youth, Pundit Claims In 'Duck Dynasty' Plea

"Glee" has angered a number of conservative groups and figures over the years, and now, one notoriously right-wing pundit is speaking out against the hit musical series for featuring same-sex relationships between teenagers.

As Right Wing Watch first reported, Americans for Truth about Homosexuality President Peter LaBarbera referenced both "Glee" and the gay wedding featured in California's Rose Parade while defending "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson, who sparked controversy last month for making a series of racist and anti-gay remarks in a GQ interview, as part of a Dec. 20 chat with the American Family Association's Sandy Rios.

"Now you have programs like 'Glee' where you have young men with romantic kisses on TV ... I just learned that the Rose Bowl parade is going to have a homosexual so-called 'marriage' float," LaBarbera noted. "All of those little kids are going to be seeing two men or two women or whatever it is getting married so-called and it’s going to infect their minds and corrupt those young minds."

Listen to LaBarbera's remarks on "Glee" and the Rose Parade gay wedding below, courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

In a second segment, LaBarbera slammed America's "radical pro-gay culture," noting, "I was in Jamaica just a couple of weeks ago. We’re spreading immorality around the world, we’re exporting homosexuality now to these little countries like Jamaica using our foreign aid dollars.” (Listen to that segment below)

LaBarbera, of course, is no stranger to anti-gay declarations. "The Obama administration has turned the United States into a huge gay-rights government," he said in an appearance on Michael Brown's "Line of Fire" radio program last year. "There's lots of government and states, whether they're Muslim or like ardently Christian nations like Uganda that don't want, they don't share the caviler attitude of the West toward homosexuality, they certainly don't want to promote it."

Jennifer Hudson Buys Assistant A House For Christmas, His Reaction Is Priceless

Jennifer Hudson did something really awesome for her assistant this Christmas, and her assistant responded in an equally awesome fashion.

On Dec. 31, Hudson uploaded a video to her Instagram account that showed the moment her assistant, Walter Williams, found out she was buying him a house for Christmas. In the clip, Williams can be heard screaming with sheer joy over the very generous gift.

Hudson and Williams met as kids while attending Yale Elementary School in Chicago, according to E! News. They've been through it all together.

After high school, he became her manager and tried to get her noticed by entering her in talent competitions at gay clubs, Williams told Entertainment Weekly back in 2009. He stuck with her through her "American Idol" auditions, even after she only placed seventh in the competition.

''I promised her that I wouldn't stop until the whole world saw her,'' he said. Despite all the fame, she hasn't changed. ''You know, out of all this, all the press and the accolades, she has remained true to herself. She's still the same sweet girl I met in grammar school. She's still Jennifer.''

In 2011, Hudson told the Advocate she considers Williams her closest friend.

Brendon Ayanbadejo: Chris Kluwe Is '100% Right' In Claiming Vikings Cut Him For Gay Rights Support (VIDEO)

Brendon Ayanbadejo believes Chris Kluwe is "100% right" in claiming his views led to him losing his job in the NFL. Kluwe, the punter for the Minnesota Vikings from 2005 through 2012, claimed he was cut by the team in May 2013 over his support of same-sex marriage in an explosive first-person article published by Deadspin on Thursday.

Hours after Kluwe's allegations sent shockwaves through the NFL, TMZ caught up with Ayanbadejo, another former NFL player who has been an outspoken advocate for marriage equality. The former Baltimore Ravens linebacker who last played during the 2012 season offered his full support to Kluwe and backed his allegations against the Vikings.

"He's 100% right and I've been saying it all along from the start," Ayanbadejo told TMZ. "You're talking about a guy who was the first or second in every punting category in terms of performance in Minnesota Vikings history."

WATCH TMZ INTERVIEW ABOVE

In the scathing piece titled "I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards And A Bigot," Kluwe not only alleged he was fired for his support of same-sex marriage but also accused Vikings special teams coordinator Mike Priefer of making anti-gay comments during team meetings. In separate statements released on Thursday, the Vikings and Priefer denied Kluwe's claims.

Ayanbadejo's comments to TMZ came after he noted on Twitter that he and Scott Fujita, another former NFL player who has publicly advocated for LGBT rights, retired by choice while Kluwe did not.

Gay Marriage Supporters Urge Supreme Court To Reject Utah Request To Block Weddings

WASHINGTON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Gay marriage proponents on Friday urged the U.S. Supreme Court to deny a request from Utah officials seeking to block a federal court ruling that allowed same-sex weddings to go ahead in the heavily Mormon state.
Now that supporters of gay marriage have filed their response to the state's emergency stay application, it is up to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who handles such requests from Utah and surrounding states, to decide whether to grant or deny the stay, or refer the matter to the court as a whole. There is no deadline for her to act.

Coca-Cola Omits Gay Wedding Scene From Ad In Ireland (VIDEO)

Coca-Coca included a gay wedding in its new ad, but perhaps it got cold feet: The soda giant omitted the scene in a version for Ireland.

The "Reasons To Believe" spot seen in the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom (watch above) features feel-good moments, including two men posing for the cameras at their wedding. But the ad running in Ireland (watch below) replaced the snippet with the heterosexual nuptials of an interracial pair.

Some Twitter users found the edit nothing to celebrate.

"Not cool Coca-Cola Ireland!," Dublin Pride 2013 admonished. "Really Coca-Cola, Ireland is the only country in Europe that can't deal with pictures of a guy marriage? Really," Helena Stone wrote.

The comments section of Coca-Cola's YouTube postings of the ads were disabled.

A Coca-Cola representative told Irish outlet TheJournal.ie the decision to rework the ad was informed by consumer research.

"As you rightly say, the wedding images used in the ad for the UK and in other parts of Europe show two men getting married. The reason that this was changed for Ireland is that while civil partnership for gay people is legal, gay marriage currently is not," the rep said.

EILE Magazine, an LGBT journal, accused the company of pouring on the malarkey because in the U.K., where the unedited ad is airing, gay marriage is banned in Scotland and Northern Ireland. EILE also reported that the footage is actually of a civil union in Australia, where same-sex marriage is prohibited.

What do you think of the decision? Let us know in the comments below.

Trestin Meacham, Utah Man, On Hunger Strike To Halt Gay Marriage

$

It seems like things may have reached a whole new level of crazy in Utah.

Trestin Meacham, a 35-year-old Utah man, is allegedly refusing to eat anything until the state nullifies its recent decision to allow same-sex couples to get married.

At the time the above video was released, Meacham had reportedly gone 12 days without food -- surviving only on water and an occasional vitamin -- and has lost 25 pounds.

“I cannot stand by and do nothing while this evil takes root in my home," the 35-year-old reportedly wrote on his blog. "Some things in life are worth sacrificing one’s health and even life if necessary. I am but a man, and do not have the money and power to make any noticeable influence in our corrupt system. Nevertheless, I can do something that people in power cannot ignore."

Meacham claims he will fast until Utah decides to nullify the court's decision -- nullification being a theory that the states have authority in all matters, not the federal government. It is a theory that has reportedly been used previously in an attempt to prevent integration in the public school system in the 1950s.

Greg Skordas, an attorney interviewed by 4Utah, reportedly stated that nullification is not an appropriate theory in the case of same-sex marriage in Utah. "If people want to change that they have to go through the appropriate processes," he stated. "When individual personal liberties are at stake the state can't infringe on that, even if it's the will of the people."

This isn't the first time that extreme anti-gay demonstrations have taken place in protest of a state's decision to legalize same-sex marriage. In late November, Illinois Bishop Thomas John Paprocki held an exorcism at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception "in reparation" for the state's decision to extend marriage rights to same-sex couples.

24 Things Millennials Need To Get Over Already

Brunch is lame, you're not that old and you're certainly not a real DJ!

Millennials haven't been on this Earth for that long, relatively speaking, so it's understandable that they're still figuring out some things -- like how to take photographs that aren't selfies, or that the old 90s shows on Nickelodeon ended for a reason. But as we move into 2014 and start thinking about which resolutions we're going to stick with this year, how about focusing on making sure you retire a few of these things that have overstayed their welcome.

1. Brunch

85651523

This will be controversial to say, but brunch -- at least in the way that millennials are known to enjoy it -- is a terrible idea, and it's baffling that it has existed for so long. You have to wake up early and start drinking in the morning. It burns you out and makes you sleepy -- or drunk -- for the rest of the day. Brunch would be perfect if the whole tradition, pancakes, mimosas, crepes and all, was moved to 4 p.m. It makes absolutely no sense that large swaths of the millennial generation are losing big chunks of their weekend to this brunch thing, when they could being doing countless other activities -- or even just catching up on sleep -- instead.

2. Selfies

131966381

The year of the selfie was 2013, which means 2014 should be the year the selfie dies. Human subjects make images more powerful, but a selfie is cheating, as you usually don't really look that interesting in your own photo. Instead, we could be on the lookout for other people in the world that could make your photographs stand out. The popularity of selfies in 2013 reminds of the early years of YouTube, when people would just upload videos of themselves lip-syncing because people didn't know how to do things any better yet. You have an amazing camera in your pocket at all times, use it more wisely.

3. Disney

TK TK gifs

The Disney corporation has gotten a free pass for far too long, and 2014 is the year their fairytale should end. For some reason, the childlike wonder of Disney makes us forget that some of it is literally made by sweatshop children wondering when their next meal will be. Also, did you know Disney Executives discussed how how sexually attractive the Little Mermaid was? And really, the whole world doesn't need to be framed in the context of Disney Princesses. Disney continued its domination of your heart in 2013 by buying the rights for "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," and truly stopping the love for their films will be impossible. Just remember Disney magic was created by ad men like Don Draper and not wizards like Merlin.

4. Karaoke

83827001

Although it's hard to do so while drunk, stepping out of the moment and really thinking about how ridiculous karaoke is can be a pretty sobering thought. In the middle of a bar or party, you're forcing everyone to hear you sing, usually in a jokey sort of ironic way that only you and your friends are even enjoying. Pop star simulations should be left to music videos you can make at mall kiosks, or while in the shower.

5. Being "so old"

117150752

You're not that old.

6. Reality TV shows like "Duck Dynasty" and "Buckwild"

TK TK gifs

Much has been said about exploitative reality shows like "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," but of course calling shows like this exploitative implies the subjects of these shows don't have the intelligence to consent or the free will to act however they please, so that's not necessarily why these shows are inherently bad. What's wrong is when the shows and their producers encourage the subjects to continue dangerous lifestyles for our amusement ("Buckwild" was cancelled after star Shain Gandee died while off-roading on an ATV) or gives their subjects a pulpit and power they probably shouldn't be given ("The Duck Dynasty" controversy).

7. Brands

Brands aren't cool simply because of their ubiquitous inclusion in millennial pop culture. That's it.

8. Cats

TK TK gifs

The Internet may finally be falling out of love with cats. Fur right meow, it is unclear whether millennials are already beating a dead cat horse, or if they've jumped the cat shark just yet, but the end of the cat reign seems to be nigh.

9. Multi-tasking

98472749

It's not even possible, so stop it. Maybe you're OK at doing many things in a small time frame, but there's probably a more effective way. Even better, instead of multi-tasking just get more sleep. Don't burn out, millennials!

10. FOMO

169937458

Allow yourself to be freed from the "fear of missing out." You can't see everything, you can't do everything, and you can't be everywhere, yet somehow you'll be alright. You should be able to breathe easy. Sometimes staying at home on Netflix and not hanging out with friends is a perfectly fine way to spend a night.

11. DJs

skd257234sdc

Although maligned for years, DJs are still everywhere. Even though some millennial DJs have had to sell their equipment to pay for rent or babies, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. In a digital age when venues can just turn on a playlist, the "art of curation" could be done by a bartender with a crossfade app and a Spotify subscription. It's rare that a DJ actually has music production skills or puts on some sort of "performance," or that the venue is intimate enough that they can actually "feel the temperature" of the room and choose songs accordingly. For this reason, the vast majority of DJs are dumb. Paris Hilton is one of the top five DJs in the world (at least according to her), so there's that too.

12. "Indie"

TK TK gifs

This term, which once stood for "independent" and was applied to something "underground" in nature, is now useless, from films to music. Maybe indie games still are in at the moment, but the term really should just be retired.

13. The Illuminati

88179554

Although a world where Jay Z and Beyoncé are the head of The Illuminati and Blue Ivy Carter is the heir to the throne is a pretty appealing dream, millennials should just give it a rest with all the conspiracies. If you stare at the eye above the tower long enough it isn't going to wink at you.

14. Superheroes

sb10063017g007

Superheroes aren't supposed to be everywhere, because then they become less super. When we have half a dozen films every year, with most featuring more than one superhero, they kinda just become normal heroes. Superman? More like Man. Iron Man? Also just Man. Wonder Woman? More like ... wait, this movie didn't even get made despite news of lesser superheroes like Ant Man getting their own movies. Superhero films also have a gender problem.

15. Taking Frisbees too seriously

95873332

Frisbees = fun. Bros taking it way too seriously = not fun. If you've never watched an Ultimate Frisbee match, you've probably incorrectly assumed that they're fairly chill affairs, which isn't the case at all. Matches are characterized by rigid plays that seem solely to exist for players to prove to spectators that this is a "legitimate sport." Nowhere else in the world can you see a drunk (or at least hungover) bro care so much about whether a teammate has kept in the "stack" or whether the "weave" was executed with perfect cuts.

16. Startups

179708563

Being the next Mark Zuckerberg or the next Snapchat ghost is basically the peak of the American dream for millennials. A whole media enterprise has been launched solely to criticize the people fueling this startup world. Ignoring the potential tech bubble, mostly it's just annoying that Silicon Valley seems to think of themselves as America's most successful punk scene, with their use of words like "disrupt" to talk about plans to oust contemporary industries with supposedly forward-thinking technological innovations.

17. Harry Potter

TK TK gifs

Millennials still can't seem to get enough of the wizard boy who lived. There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter, except it seems like it's time to move on from Hogwarts and remind ourselves that, despite our deepest wishes, we can't stay in school forever.

18. Grammar Nazis

Maybe 2014 will finally be the year of the Grammar Nazi's demise. Instead of obsessing over Merriam and Webster, perhaps Grammar Nazis will move on to a role model like Alien, a character from the 2013 film "Spring Breakers," who taught us that there isn't just one way to speak, and that American English is wonderfully diverse. "This is the fuckin' American dream. This is my fuckin' dream, y'all! All this sheeyit! Look at my sheeyit!" he wisely spoke. America the beautiful.

19. Nick Nostalgia

TK TK gifs

The nostalgia party is over. It's been decades since these shows were on the air, which makes them interesting to remember for a moment, but not over a whole block of "Nick at Nite." Zach Morris? More like Zach BOREis, amirite?

20. Energy drinks

200559150002

Red Bull is a very "cool" entity, from their Music Academy to their magazine to sponsoring someone's skydive from space to etc., etc. But despite the awesome things that surround the brand, the actual liquid in the can just isn't that good for you, and is leading to increased hospital visits. Other energy drink competitors are also making questionable moves to keep you drinking until we become an Idiocracy nation.

21. Contemporary "folk pop"

108198608

Mumford & Sons may have finally announced an indefinite hiatus this year, but that only left room for countless other musicians to try to take over the folk pop reins of melodic terror. There isn't anything inherently wrong with "folk" or even "folk pop." But for some reason the genre seems to come with a sense of pretension, like it's better than other pop artists and is somehow more "real," because they play acoustic guitars, bang on expensive trashcans and sing about sad things (in between yelling "hey" or other monosyllabic exclamations). Meanwhile, the bands seem to have sold out to any and every ad or movie trailer that has come asking.

22. Vampires/Zombies

142827476

Somehow the vampires and zombie genres are still going on as if they -- and not just the fictional characters behind them -- are actually immortal. We don't need more vampire and zombie books, television shows or movies in 2014, even if the writer promises it's somehow a "fresh take." It's likely not, and the writer or producer is just looking for fresh blood, brains and money, so maybe it's time to ignore it.

23. Hannah Horvath-ing

TK TK gifs

Hannah Horvath is the main character in the millennial defining HBO show "Girls." Although it's a good show, it's now hard to say whether Horvath emulates millennials or if millennials have started emulating her, and the generational traits of both seem to keep bouncing off each other and getting more and more exaggerated. Although there probably aren't too many millennials asking themselves, "What would Hannah Horvath do?" there are probably plenty who have excused an action or life choice because she did it on the show. Hannah Horvath-ing is what you do when you don't want to take personal responsibility for an action, either because your parents and society were enablers, or because other cultural forces seem to encourage it.

24. Hating Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West and other celebrities

You can hate the idea of "Kanye West," or you can hate his music or his contributions to society, but it's important to recognize that you don't and probably never will know "Kanye West" the actual person. We should all realize that there are humans behind these celebrity personas, and that their lives are probably more complex than we're willing to admit.

Laverne Cox Producing 'Free CeCe,' Documentary About Transgender Woman CeCe McDonald

Transgender actress and "Orange Is The New Black" breakout star Laverne Cox is currently co-producing an important and compelling new documentary about the life and incarceration of CeCe McDonald.

Titled "Free CeCe," Cox is producing the film alongside Jacqueline Gares in order to heighten visibility and awareness surrounding McDonald, a transgender woman of color in the midst of a "41 month prison sentence for defending herself against a violent, racist and transphobic attack in Minnesota which resulted in the death of one of her attackers."

"CeCe’s story is one that should have been covered more in the press. Trans women, particularly trans women of color, experience disproportionate amounts of violence and not enough is being done to eradicate that violence," Cox said in an interview with "Persephone Magazine." "CeCe’s story in so many ways encapsulates the intersectional issues that lead to far too many of us experiencing violence. I wanted to do a piece that explores the nature of how race, class and gender affect violence towards trans women and also give CeCe a space to tell her story in her words in the context of a piece that truly values the lives of trans women of color."

According to GLAAD, the film will primarily consist of Cox's interview with McDonald in prison and explore the events surrounding what happened to her on that night in 2011, as well as her experiences being incarcerated in a men's prison.
